Bacon! Bacon, bacon, bacon! Cue the commercial references. Bacon Fest once again hit southern California in all of it’s “pork-ified” foodie glory.

Big Bite events turned out an incredible selection of dishes. Held in Long Beach at the Queen Mary, it was one event well worth the wait. If you’ve never been it’s a must do bucket list addition, to your California adventures. We stopped and chatted with our favorite vendors here at PPLA and are proud to bring you your must stop foodie destinations around socal.

First up are the delicious creations of the “Richeeze” food truck. Their goal is to change the way you think about grilled cheese. Since it’s one of our first loves here at PPLA, we just decided it’s marriageable after our “Richeeze” tasting fest. For Bacon Fest “Richeeze” let attendees sample their famous ‘Bacon-Mac’ which features a toasted sweet Hawaiian bun with an incredibly creamy mac and cheese with bacon perfectly sandwiched in-between. We swoon in foodie heaven over this delectable meal. You can track their location via their website. We won’t blame you for planning your day around them, we’d do it too.Baconfest

Next up we have Mariscos El Cristalazo….holy mother of all that is sacred. They make fresh bacon wrapped deep fried jumbo shrimp. We possibly died after the first bite. The verdict is still out. Obviously anything that is that ridiculous warrants a second round. After briskly walking off the first experience we had to double back for more here at PPLA. You just don’t turn down bacon fried jumbo shrimp people! In addition to their magical bacon-shrimp hybrid this husband and wife duo was also serving up a spicy deep friend bacon wrapped yellow pepper filled with cheese and shrimp. For you spice lovers, this is the perfect combination of fire, bacon, and mariscos. Located in southern California you can check their website for hours and directions to their restaurant: www.mariscoselcristalazo.com.

Who doesn’t love Mac and Cheese? Elbow’s Mac and Cheese came to bacon fest armed with not one but TWO of their delectable Mac and Cheese creations. Staff favorite here at PPLA is hands down their “When Pigs Fly” mac. This carefully crafted Mac combines swiss, gruyere, and smoked applewood bacon in a cheesey noodle combination that will blow your tastebuds. Anyone who loves artisanal cheeses, and quality bacon is sure to be a devout lover of “When Pigs Fly.” Elbow’s also boasts a restaurant location and you check all of their mac goodness here: www.elbowsmacncheese.com.

For our fellow sweet tooth aficionado’s our top dessert choice is, hands down San Diego Donut Bar’s maple bacon donut. Talk about the perfect combination of salty to sweet delectability. With the perfect amount of fluff inside this doughy donut with a perfectly well balanced ratio of maple frosting and bacon, this took our dessert expectations to another level. Check out all their other creations at: www. donutbarsandiego.com.

Bacon FestUntil next year Big Bite Bacon Festival has stolen a permanent place in our stomach. With live music, games, food and drink samples galore this is a foodie’s paradise!
