McLaren revved up the excitement right from the start by having two of their hot-bodied sports cars parked out front, available for pictures and a “speed test drive” for the celebrities. All of this was put on to raise awareness and benefits to this year’s charity of choice, the African Millenium Foundation.
AMF is a grassroots, non-profit organization that helps women and children in Africa; their current project is taking place in Maputo, Mozambique where they are building a sustainable village that will provide shelter for 200 children that have been orphaned by AIDS. They have already broken ground on the site and hope to have a school as well as a clinic open within the year.
The companies and designers that had booths included; SweetNorthBabe, Ancestry, HalfBreed Clothing, Joy and Mario Footwear, Java Skin Care, Jonathan Product, Appethyl, Tikkun Holistic Spa, Karen’s Products, Clarisse Designs, Artizan by Robin Barre, Teeny Wingkini, GEEK EYEWEAR, Victoria Duke, Nuwati Herbals, Arganesse, and Zico. Kudos to Zico and their new Pineapple-Mango juice, it paired deliciously with the champagne offered for a tasty and healthy mimosa!
Sparkle and shine was abound next as Clarisee Designs had a bevy of elegant formal and cocktail dresses on display. Robin Barre’s Artizan jewelry was bursting with colors and fabulous stones, including her personal favorite, the statement necklace. If you find yourself flying in or out of Dallas or Indianapolis anytime soon, be sure to look for her stores in the airport.
PPLA’s three favorite booths were hands down SweetNorthBabe, Teeny Wingkini, and Nuwati Herbals. Yvonne Begemann created the perfect festival and sporting line of handmade clutches, wristlets, and handbags with her North German based company SweetNorthBabe. With patterns reminiscent of Vera Bradley, her collection offers unique design aspects and highlights multi-functionality. For example, a lot of her bags have small, nearly hidden, pockets to stow away valuables and her wristlets are reversible so you get two designs for the price of one.
Teeny Wingkini was an adorable start-up company that featured “fairy fun-ware”, girl’s swimwear up to size eight complete with detachable waterproof wings and a zipper pouch in the back for Chap Stick or seashells. Two young girls who modeled off some of the suits, one looking like a bumblebee and the other a blue fairy, said they were “cute and comfortable.” The company hopes to release a toy doll line to accompany the suits this summer.
Easily the best-presented booth was Nuwati Herbals, a family owned business based out of Missouri that offers, “Natural Remedies from the Medicine Cabinet of Mother Earth.” On hand were husband and wife Rod Jackson and Kimberly Stauder who demonstrated the power of their “Healer Tea” bottle that instantly cleared the nostrils and head of congestion with a mere whiff of the contents. Using only all-natural, all-American products in their teas, bath salts, soaps, and creams, Nuwati offers a healthy and natural way to boost and strengthen the immune system and is perfect for those with respiratory concerns.
Some of the celebrities in attendance included Antonique Smith, Adam Ellison, Charlotte Huggins, Jason Rabinowitz The Order, Jo-El Sonnier, Manny Marroquin, Mindi Abair, Stephen Trask, Adam Ellison, Nimrod Antal, The Order Palo, and more!
