THE HATEFUL EIGHT TRAILER DEBUTS

Rumors surrounding Quentin Tarantino’s latest venture, The Hateful Eight, began circulating as far back as November 2013.

Since then, the questions inevitably began to pour in. Was this a sequel to 2012’s Django Unchained? Would Tarantino cast his gang of usual suspects? How long before Bob and Harvey Weinstein got their meaty paws on the film?

Then, all hell broke loose.

The script was reportedly leaked and allegations ran rapid. Although merely speculation, fingers pointed towards Bruce Dern, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen, three of the “few trusted colleagues” Tarantino entrusted with his writing. But since all three actors are attached to the film, those accusations seem unlikely. Yet at the time, in a fit of rage and frustration, the famed filmmaker decided to shelve the project and release it as a novel. A collective slap on the head could be heard from Tarantino fans.

Now, after a few rewrites and a new ending, new life has been breathed into The Hateful Eight, with the first official teaser-trailer dropping today.

The 1:47 clip doesn’t give us much; we know it takes place in a post-Civil War Wyoming. We know that eight distinct strangers, all with unusual nicknames, are stranded together during a catastrophic blizzard. And we know, like most of Tarantino’s crowning achievements, this looks like one bloody, badass movie.

Robert Richardson (Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained) is in talks to shoot the project using 70mm film (high-resolution) and Panavision, a throwback to films of the 50s and 60s. Both methods are highlighted in the trailer, giving us an inclination that Hollywood’s resident mad genius has got some new tricks up his sleeve.

With a release date slated for fall 2015, the coming months should give us more information on this long-awaited film. Stay tuned!
