Rodney and Holly Robinson Peete hosted their 15th Annual DesignCare event, a celebration of fashion, philanthropy and music, to benefit the HollyRod Foundation. The event was held at a private estate in Malibu. Guests enjoyed cocktails, food, a live and silent auction, a runway fashion show and an amazing performance by Grammy Award winning R&B artist, Ne-Yo.
We spoke to Holly Robinson Peete about the event, “We’re here to help HollyRod Foundation and to help serve families that are affected by Autism and Parkinson’s which is such a privilege. We’re just absolutely thrilled to be able to serve. Everybody’s here! Your friends show up. You cannot give back unless your supporters are there and your friends show up for you. It’s just really something that you just can’t do. And so as a family we love the idea that service is something that you know, you must put out there and it comes back to you.”
The friends that showed up that Holly referred to included: Regina King, Garcelle Beauvais, Jill Marie Jones, Shaun Robinson, Boris Kodjoe, Nicole Ari Parker, Alan Thicke, Cedric The Entertainer, Irving “Magic” Johnson and wife Cookie, Leah Remini, LaVar Burton, Shawne Merriman, Mark Curry, Steven Bauer, Nancy O’Dell, Vivica A. Fox, Laila Ali, Lisa Leslie, Congresswoman, Maxine Water, Duane Martin, Mike Epps, Eva LaRue, Yvette Nicole Brown and many, many more.
This year’s honorees were: Tisha Campbell-Martin, who received the HollyRod “AUsome” Mother of the Year Award; Jordan Pattillo, who received the HollyRod4Kids Champion Award; Jim Mitchell, CEO of FUHU, Inc. who received the HollyRod Corporate Compassion Award; John Ball, who received the Matthew T. Robinson, Jr. Award of Courage; and Michael Strautmanis, who received the HollyRod Advocacy Hero Award.
In addition to Ne-Yo’s great performance, guests enjoyed a spectacular runway fashion show by designer, Rubin Singer. Rubin’s clothes have been seen on Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Heidi Klum, Lea Michelle, Queen Latifah and more women in the spotlight. The designer added Holly Robinson Peete to that list by dressing her in a fabulous, hot pink gown for the evening. Rubin told us, “There’s going to be a lot of leather, a lot of lace, a lot of cutouts, a lot of paneling, pops of red, pops of beige and a lot, a lot of sexiness.” The looks certainly did not disappoint.
