The 73rd annual Emmy Awards will air live at 5 p.m. PT on the CBS Television Network as well as on Paramount+. The Emmy’s telecast cycles between the four major broadcast networks, CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX. The host often, but not always, is a person or people employed by the network. The last time The Emmy’s aired on CBS it was hosted by The Late Show‘s Stephen Colbert. The broadcast of CBS’ right to air The Emmys currently stands as the highest-rated Emmys telecast of the last five years. The most recent Emmys, held last September, aired on ABC, and was hosted by that network’s late night star Jimmy Kimmel. That Emmy’s broadcast was mostly virtual due to the ongoing pandemic, and set a new record, unfortunately as the lowest-rated Emmys telecast ever. We hope to see the number’s rise this year, as well as a hopeful look at a future which might see our favorite tv stars safely re-united under one roof. While there is something novel about seeing stars sitting on their couches, surrounded by their families, it isn’t the same excitment of a live awards show. Let us know your thoughts.
