36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Nominees

GLAAD has officially announced their 2025 nominees for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, taking place March 27, 2025, in Los Angeles, California.

The GLAAD Media Awards celebrates the representation of those who identify as LGBTQ+ in media. ‘GLADD’ stands for Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. These awards have been held since 1990, and aim to showcase works which promote LGBTQ+ acceptance and visibility, allowing queer voices to be heard and shared across the screen. In fact, these awards are vital for championing the LGBTQ+ community now, than ever before.

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis says, “The GLAAD Media Awards were created nearly four decades ago to champion LGBTQ stories amid a deeply hostile and unsafe time for our community. Today, this mission holds true and ever-more important as attacks against LGBTQ people continue to grow.”

This year, the 36th GLAAD Media Awards will present 303 nominees in 33 categories. These categories include television, film, journalism, gaming, podcasting, music, and so much more. The GLAAD Media Awards have become the most recognized LGBTQ+ awards show worldwide, delivering strong messages of inclusivity and acceptance to audiences everywhere.

These awards honor many different artists and projects from all over the world. One show in particular that gained a lot of attention this year, is the HBO comedy series, The Sex Lives of College Girls. The show follows four random roommates navigating friendships, relationships, and self-discovery at “Essex” college. The show centers around many different topics, including LGBTQ+ relationships, where characters openly navigate and discover their sexual identities in a light-hearted way, earning a nomination for ‘Best Comedy Series’ at the GLAAD Awards this year.

Justin Noble, a writer for The Sex Lives of College Girls shares on Instagram, “Absolutely THRILLED that The Sex Lives of College Girls was nominated for Best Comedy Series at this year’s GLAAD Awards! Thank you, [GLAAD] – not just for this, but for the much more important work that you do all year round.”

More standout moments from the announcement of the 2025 nominees include the recognition of young female actresses. Maddie Ziegler (22), a dancer and actress originally known for her role on hit reality TV show Dance Moms, has been nominated for the first time for not one, but two GLAAD Media Awards, for her work in My Old Ass (Outstanding Film – Wide Theatrical Release) and Fitting In (Outstanding Film – Limited Theatrical Release).

Not only Ziegler, but fellow young female actress Yasmin Finney (21) was nominated for two awards as well. Finney’s work in Doctor Who (Disney+) was nominated for ‘Outstanding Drama Series,’ and her work in Heartstopper was nominated for ‘Outstanding Kids or Family Programming or Film.’ The recognition of young talent like Ziegler and Finney, continues to emphasize the diverse talent being recognized this year.

The 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will show the incredible works of LGBTQ+ artists and creators, highlighting the progress made in media representation. The awards ceremony will take place on March 27, 2025, in Los Angeles, to celebrate the LGBTQ+ media and voices. Visit GLAAD for the full list of nominees.
