Just recently, at the AT&T Penthouse Suite, Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles spearheaded its 4th annual Celebrity Chefs & Wine Tasting event that raised an astonishing $270,000 for the advocacy and support of at-risk children and families throughout Southern California.
The organization is committed to providing young children the foundation necessary to become caring and productive adults by providing services that include school readiness, parenting classes, family resource centers, support groups, mental health counseling, foster care and adoption.
I caught up with Children’s Bureau’s Chief Development Officer, Jacqueline Meek, who said “Children’s Bureau is fortunate to have the support of so many outstanding chefs and wineries in concert with the exceptional folks from our presenting sponsor, Bon Appétit Management. When these talented professionals along with 400 philanthropically-minded guests come together in support of an important cause, the prevention of child abuse and neglect, great things happen.” This year’s Children’s Bureau Celebrity Chefs & Wine Tasting hosted 10 celebrity chefs and 12 wineries.
One of those chefs was Susan Feniger who was recently featured on the Today Show. She also had two shows on the Food Network, Too Hot Tamales and Tamales World Tour, and was featured opposite food legend, Julia Child on her former PBS show, Cooking With Master Chefs. Today, this talented chef runs a well-received celebrity restaurant, known as Susan Feniger’s Street, in Hollywood. Susan was so thrilled to be part the Children’s Bureau event and said, “Whenever we can give back it is important as we are in the hospitality business. Chefs always have a voice to give back and it’s necessary to be involved in the nonprofit world with organizations like Children’s Bureau”.
During the event I also spoke with Pali Wine Company’s Social Media Manager, Shay Bellew who said, “Pali Wine Company is really proud to support this Children’s Bureau event for the 3rd year in a row. Not only is Children’s Bureau an incredible organization, we love to support local organizations as we are local too.” Giving back to the community is imperative to make a difference in the life of a child that is at-risk.
