American Ballet Theatre (ABT) made its anticipated seasonal return to Lincoln Center for its annual Fall Season at the David H. Koch Theater. The centerpiece of the two-week engagement was last night’s Fall Gala which showcased the World Premiere of choreographer Christopher Rudd’s new ballet Lifted.

Lifted is the first original ballet at ABT to feature an all Black cast. The show is set to music by Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence Carlos Simon with live orchestra led by Conductor Roderick Cox in his ABT debut, Lifted featured costumes by New York-based creative director and fashion designer Carly Cushnie.

Gala guests who gathered for the black-tie dinner and dancing on the Promenade of the David H. Koch Theater included Alessandra Ferry. Amy Astley, Anh Duong, Antoni Porowski, Coco Rocha, Deborah Valdez-Hung, Keith Lieberthal, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Nikki Kynard & Aku Orraca-Tette,  Sunny Hostin, Sutton Stracke, ABT CEO & Executive Director Janet Rollé, ABT principal dancers Misty Copeland, James Whiteside, Isabella Boylston and Calvin Royal III among others.

The event honored ABT Trustee Patricia R. Morton with The Melville Straus Leadership Achievement Award. The program also included Jiří Kylián’s high-spirited Sinfonietta, last performed by ABT in 2014.
