Barry’s has re-opened in West Hollywood and the posh new studio is offering a brand new Ride X Lift class for everyone looking to up their fitness routine.
Are you ready to hit the Red Room? If you love cycling and hiit classes, this 50-60 minute workout is a dream come true. One of the coolest things about writing about fitness is being able to scope out the new classes as they become available in Los Angeles. As far as we’re aware this new class type is only available in New York City and Los Angeles.
If you’ve taken the classic Barry’s class you know the format. Their Ride X Lift changes that style up a bit. You decide ahead of time if you’re going to start on the bike or the mat. A traditional Barry’s class mixes HIIT-style cardio on a treadmill in the form of jogging, running, and sprinting intervals with strength training on the floor, and usually includes four 15-minute blocks. For Barry’s Lift X Ride, the cardio portion is performed on a stationary indoor cycling bike, not a treadmill, and each block is about 30 minutes. We do kind of wish That it was 15/15 but with the clipping in and out of the bike and adjusting it if the class is full, it just isn’t feasible. You also get about 90 seconds between the bike and the mat to change shoes and adjust the bike and grab your weights depending on which station you’ve opted to begin with. The room is also split like a tradional Barry’s class with weights and bikes going at the same time. Aside from your main instructor you also have an instructor on the bike the entire time doing the workout which helps with the cycling portion and the call outs for moves. Barry’s is a fast moving class. One thing we really liked about the Barry’s bike is how they have a display screen that tracks your RPMs, and your instructor gives you a range to stay within. That feature was a big plus for staying up while pushing ourselves to do our best during class.
We used to go alot pre-pandemic and we think the best part of Barry’s is that they do have routine in their classes. Once you get the choreography down for the weighted moves if you don’t know what everything is called (like us) it gets easier to follow along. Of course the instructor demonstrates the move, but it can be confusing for a newbie. We’d like to encourage you not to be discouraged. You don’t have to go as fast as everyone, it’s all about trying your best and setting your moves to the music but that can be at your pace. The more you go the easier it gets. We’re so happy for this new Barry’s location and the addition of their ride studio to their available workouts.
If you’re good with weights and hiit style workouts but want to do something more low-impact than running then this class really is for you. Additonally, the number you’ve been assigned on the bike corresponds with the bench you will move to to do floor work.
The new West Hollywood location for Barry’s is gorgeous (they have moved a few blocks down the road). With Ouai products in the bathroom for women and Thera Guns and rollers available to customer’s this Barry’s location really has it all. Of course they also have their signature health bar where you can pre-order your shake for after class. Overall, it was a beautiful space and we hope to try out their regular Barry’s class next time we pop in to see the room. Plus did we mention they have validated parking? 90 minutes free in West Hollywood, a dream.
COST: Barry’s RIDE classes begin at $34/class in Los Angeles, with packages also available.
