The Golden Globes did not air on Sunday, opting instead for a private ceremony, resulting in a new batch of winners, many who represent a new generation of faces who bring big firsts to the antiquated show.
Winning big at the Golden Globes was The Power of The Dog bringing home best drama in theMotion Picture category for Netflix.
For lovers of Squid Game it should’ve come as no surprise when South Korean actor O Yeong-su claimed the country’s first Golden Globe Award on Sunday for his role in the hit Netflix drama Squid Game. Many cheers at home and abroad broke out, despite criticism for the ceremony’s organizers over a lack of diversity. This win is hopefull one of many future wins for poc actors who are the best, in their field and not simply a status-quo within the organization.
Another big and exciting new win for the night went to Michaela Jaé Rodriguez of Pose. Michaela goes on to become the first trans actor to take home a Golden Globe for best television actress in a drama. While the Globes didn’t air Michaela went on Instagram live to give an emotional acceptance speech.
Other winners include, West Side Story for best musical or comedy in Motion Picture, Rachael Zegler and Ariana DuBose also took home Globes for Leading and Supporting actor roles.
