CIRCLE OF CARE WITH DWTS

Shining the light on causes is one of the things Hollywood star power is most beneficial for.  Case in point, the turnout for the Circle of Care Foundation’s Trunk Show at the Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills.  It was a silent auction with proceeds going to aid burn survivors and their families through assistance by the A. Richard Grossman Burn Center.  The night was capped off by the presentation of the ‘Spirit of Hope Award’ to veteran/actor/dancer/motivational speaker J.R. Martinez.  The event featured celeb supporters including his Dancing with the Stars cast-mates!

Mr. Martinez was serving in the U.S. Military when he sustained burn injuries on over forty percent of his body while doing a tour in Iraq.  He spent 34 months of recovery in the hospital and underwent 33 surgeries and skin grafts.  He never gave up hope and encouraged others to keep striving, which led him to be invited to motivational speaking engagements and opened the door to his acting career.  He was truly deserving of the award.  Many celebs, and his close friends, came out to support him and the cause on this glorious evening.  Dancing alum, David Arquette was the first star on the carpet.  He was gracious and sincere.  I told him I would take it easy on him in next week’s blog!

I also got the privilege to chat with veteran soap actress Kate Linder and upcoming heartthrob (and genuine Southern gentleman) Casey Bond of the box office hit Moneyball.  Then, like a gentle breeze on an autumn evening, I turned to see the luminous Carson Kressley gliding towards me.  He was every bit as amazing and more than I imagined he would be.  Sassy, sweet, and the skin of a newborn!  I almost flatlined on the floor when he gave me a double-kiss on the cheeks!  Two words to describe that very moment: swoon and shaboing (they’re totally in the Oxford Dictionary).  It was a great night for a magnificent cause.
