Actors have been doing table reads for a long time, it isn’t often the general public is privy to the process, but Dead To Me is premiering with just that.
Last night, Dead to Me stars Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini, James Marsden, as well as creator Liz Feldman and cast members Sam McCarthy, Luke Roessler and Keong Sim brought fans back to where it all began with a virtual live read of the first episode of Season 1. Hosted for the first time ever on Netflix US Facebook, this event was held in celebration of Dead to Me Season 2 (premiering Friday, May 8), as the group partnered with World Central Kitchen to raise awareness for their COVID-19 relief efforts.
**Season One Spoilers Ahead**
Some of our favorite moments from the read include: When James went off-book and improvised his opening scene as British version of “Steve,” Christina jokingly called for him to be recast with Dermot Mulroney. Another favorite was that the cast brought many improvised props into the read, including cell phones, jelly beans and straws. It was showrunner Liz Feldman who won the night by surprising everyone with a tiny toy Mustang (dented bumper included!) used to wrap-up the read and play out the final moments in the script which reveal it was actually Judy’s car that killed Jen’s husband!
The full table read is available on Netflix US Facebook. The cast also raised awareness for World Central Kitchen. Founded by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen is working to provide meals for kids and families impacted by COVID-19. Fans can still donate to relief efforts at wck.org/deadtome.
