Alicia Silverstone has sat down with Vogue to give us a tell all on her iconic yellow plaid outfit from Clueless.
Clueless was a revolution for young girls in the 90’s. Cher was an obsession as were Dionne, Amber, and Tye. She reveals that (yes gasp) the yellow plaid number almost…almossssst didn’t make it into the movie. Who else ran out and snagged thigh highs, and plaid outfits? We are 100% guilty of owning a plaid skirt from the Limited Too. Yes pause, collect your thoughts, you remember Limited Too don’t you? Limited Too was the main source of inspiration for all Clueless related wardrobe choices in the 90’s. To be honest the 90’s were a revolution in fashion, music, and film. Like the 60’s the 90’s is a divisive flavor in pop culture. This outfit is a staple of what the 90’s represented, how they flowed out of grunge into cute girlie fashion, which bred a hybrid of grunge meet girlie for many women across the world. Think of Ginger Spice’s Union Jack dress in contrast to Sporty Spice’s play on the track suit trend. Think back to Kate Moss and her iconic outfits, her ability to mix silk and denim. This well-fitted silk shift she would throw on is almost a cheeky look at Cher’s Alaïa dress in the Clueless film. paired with an oversized jean jacket. We’d say timeless, but really its defining.
With everyone home, staying safe, the 90’s are a bit of a dream era to dive into cinematically. What would your dream 90’s night in watch list be for movies? Be sure to circle back to Press Pass LA’s instagram today as we share our top movie picks. Send us yours, we’d love to know!
