Dinner Diaries: Chicas Tacos

When can you not use a taco break? Chicas Tacos brings a fun, outdoorsy taco date to you all around Los Angeles.

Chicas Tacos is expanding. The popular taco spot is known as a Mexican fast casual concept and home to “A Better Taco”. Chicas Tacos opened their fourth location on May 5th, 2021 inside Whole Foods Venice. The new location’s menu will feature some key sought-after staples including the award-winning Chicas Impossible and Beer Battered Fish Tacos, nachos, burritos and bowls. Chicas Director of Tacos and Executive Chef Eduardo Ruiz has created some new menu items exclusive to Whole Foods Market Venice. “We’ve decided to launch some unique dishes, specifically with the Whole Foods Market shopper in mind” explains Chef Ruiz, “We’re excited to introduce our grilled fish taco, leche de tigre ceviche and added plant-based options which we think will resonate well with our new Venice community.”

We stopped by their Mid-Wilshire location, inside the local All Seasons Brewery, which makes for an awesome and safe night on the town. Chicas pioneered the movement of utilizing fresh, high-quality, and never-frozen ingredients in a bold yet balanced menu inspired by the vibrant flavors of Mexico. Their flour tortillas have even been awarded a Michelin specialty award.

Chicas Tacos boasts an impressive taco menu. In order to properly to kick off our foodie journey we ordered their Fish Taco (beer battered fish, morita salsa, caesar salad, garlic breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese on corn tortilla) Impossible Taco (Iceberg, radish, citrus vinaigrette, avocado crèma on crispy corn tortilla shell) and their Steak Taco (Peppered certified angus steak, queso, crispy potato, morita salsa, shaved radish, scallion, cilantro on corn tortilla)

You cannot go to Chicas and NOT try their Quesadilla. This was absolutely our favorite discovery. The 12 inch Michelin award-winning flour tortilla, three cheese blend, queso, queso fresco, morita salsa, scallion, radish, cilantro (add your choice of protein) is to die for.

The Impossible Nachos are unbelievable. On the menu they go by Plant Based Nachos and they come with non-GMO tortilla chips piled high topped with plant based queso, avocado salsa, morita salsa, radish, scallion, cilantro, grilled jalapeno (add your choice of protein)You can’t tell the difference, and for a pro-tip: order a side of guacamole to top off with. You won’t be sorry.

For a one of a kind foodie experience try Chicas’ Deep Dish Taco. This open faced deep dish taco big is enough to share! They start by layering corn tortillas and their three cheese blend, then you add in your choice of protein.

Our last venture was Chicas’ dessert options. For our pick we went with their Churro Bites with Ice Cream. Chicas has even paired up with Cool Haus, giving you the option of vegan vanilla for your dessert indulgence if that is your preference. The Churros are house made cinnamon sugar dusted flaky pastry served with Cool Haus vanilla ice cream and Mexican caramel.
