Disney Princess’ Take Center Stage at D23

Disney knew what the people wanted and they DELIVERED at D23. Not only did a trailer for Disney’s The Little Mermaid drop, but so did the trailer for the long awaited sequel to Enchanted, as well as it’s title reveal: Disenchanted.

Along with The Little Mermaid trailer, Disney revealed the cast list at D23. The film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey (“grown-ish”) as Ariel; Tony Award winner Daveed Diggs (“Hamilton,” “Snowpiercer”) as the voice of Sebastian; Jacob Tremblay (“Luca,” “Room”) as the voice of Flounder; Awkwafina (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) as the voice of Scuttle; Jonah Hauer-King (“A Dog’s Way Home”) as Prince Eric; Art Malik (“Homeland”) as Sir Grimsby; Noma Dumezweni (“Mary Poppins Returns”) as Queen Selina; with Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Being the Ricardos”) as King Triton; and two-time Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?” “Bridesmaids”) as Ursula. The Little Mermaid panel concluded with a standing ovation after the trailer was revealed.

Disenchanted was such a wonderful panel over at D23. Amy Adams herself came onstage in character as Giselle as she blew bubbles and greeted the audience before they revealed the trailer. The trailer we warn you, sparks joy.

Because of the large merger with Fox, Anastasia is now officially a Disney princess, dare we hope Anastasia might get a live action treatment in the future? Shall we root for Thumbelina as well? Both of those films are now in the Disney catalog, how amazing would it be to see them join the original Disney princesses and become a part of all official Disney Princess merch, activities, parks, and more?

A big surprise following D23 was the announcement of Peter and Wendy. D23 shared a trailer for Peter Pan and Wendy, which stars Jude Law as Captain Hook and will stream on Disney Plus in 2023. The trailer has not be made readily available to the public at this time. We will say it was a teeny tiny glimpse. There will be more to come.

Author Rick Riordan’s New York Times best selling series is coming back to your screen. This time Percy Jackson and the Olympians are coming to Disney+ as a series. Are you ready for Camp Half-Blood?

Pixar brought out the “big guns.” Amy Poehler made an appearance to announce Inside Out 2, the sequel to the 2015 classic. It’ll follow a teenage Riley, introduce new emotions. The film is due out summer 2024. D23 also shared a glimpse of Mufasa: The Lion King, the prequel coming from Moonlight director Barry Jenkins. It’ll reveal the story of Simba’s father in 2024.
