After a night of average performances by the contestants and a bad performance by the American Idol Executive Producers we can now focus on the results.  With all of the Jermaine Jones drama, we kind of lost track that the results of tonight’s show will determine the “Top 10” American Idol performers for the summer tour.

While we have no way of knowing for sure, there are speculations that making the “Top10”  is worth as much as $250,000 – $400,000 for each of the summer tour performers. When the judges took the stage, Jennifer Lopez looked amazing. She glowed in a sparkly gold dress. She is truly beautiful. However, I am not sure who dresses Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, but I certainly wouldn’t want to take credit for their outfits! With the announcement of Tommy Hilfiger as the new American Idol Image consultant maybe he can do something to help those guys out. Let’s get to the results!

Ryan Seacrest calls up Phillip Phillips, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone and Joshua Ledet to the stage. Based on my picks all four of these singers should be safe. Unfortunately, only 3 of the 4 are safe and Elise is asked to take a seat in the bottom 3. (I am starting to get a little annoyed) I thought Elise’s performance the previous night was one of the best. But it is obvious that she hasn’t developed a strong enough public following and will really have to sing her butt off if she is lucky enough to stay in the contest.

Next up is Colton Dixon, Shannon Magrane, Deandre Brackensick and Jessica Sanchez. (Oh good, this should be easy). Colton, Jessica and Shannon all gave good performances and Deandre’s performance was mediocre at best. (Oh…no!!!)I can’t believe my ears, Ryan has just sent Shannon to the “Bottom 3” bleacher seats. (Now I am starting to get pissed!) Deandre’s performance was horrible. He was so scared he looked like a deer in the headlights. Unfortunately, all of the 13 year old girls really love his long hair and cute looks. I guess they don’t mind that he can’t sing!!! When time does The Voice start?

Last up was Hollie Cavanagh, Heejun Han and Erika Van Pelt. Hollie gave a terrific performance so she is definitely safe. I thought Heejun and Erika belonged in the “Bottom 3”, so it is going to be a tossup. Finally Ryan announces that Hollie and Heejun are safe and Erika gets to join Shannon and Elise in the “Bottom 3.” (Now I am REALLY pissed!!!) There is no way the “Bottom 3”, should be made up of all girls. America really got it wrong. I don’t like the “Bottom 3” and either do the judges. I guess we have to remember that this is just as much a popularity contest as it is a singing contest.

Quickly thereafte, Ryan announces that Elise is safe. Nine of the ten spots have now been filled. It now comes down to Shannon and Erika for the final spot. I like both of these girls and I felt they both sang well enough to be part of the “Top 10”. Unfortunately, one of them has to go and Ryan Seacrest announces that the next person who’s going on tour is Erika Van Pelt. Shannon now has to sing for her life and hope the judges will save her. She belts out a decent version of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” and now it is up to the judges to determine her fate. Ryan asks the judges “Will you use your one save tonight?” Keeping it short, Randy announces “Unfortunately, we’re not going to use it tonight,” and Shannon’s journey ends one position short of the coveted “Top 10”.

I truly liked Shannon from the very beginning and she was one of my original picks at the end of auditions to make it to the “Top 10”. I wish her well in the future. She is a beautiful young woman. The top 10 American Idols on the summer tour will be Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, Erika Van Pelt, Elise Testone, Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine, Heejun Han, Colton Dixon, Joshua Ledet and Deandre Brackensick. (Sincerely, too pissed to comment further!)
