Television, What to Watch
Sep 4, 2012

It’s that time again, when you set your Tivo’s for your favorite fall returning shows. Here are PPLA’s top pics of shows we can’t get enough of! Let’s hope you’ve used this summer and Netflix to catch up… slackers!Grimm– Even though it’s already returned (it is  three episodes in!), it’s still a Fall season returning show so we wanted to start here. The cast is amazing in so many ways and manages to balance the fantastical and supernatural things going on with a bit of humor while driving the conspiracy theories and plot forward. Truly one of the best shows out right now. Monday August 19th 10/9c on NBC

Castle– Castle and Beckett finally got together on the finale last season, but they are far from in the clear. Beckett’s investigation into her mother’s death is back in the spotlight as the duo balances their anything but ordinary crimefighting and newfound bliss. Monday September 24th 10/9c on ABC

New Girl – Nick couldn’t handle the move in with his ex-girlfriend (they just got back together) and moves back in with the housemates. Schmidt broke up with Cece thinking she was better off without him and Jess is newly single. What do we see coming? It’s been leaked that Jess will lose her job which sets her off on a path of trying new things! And I predict one of those just might end up being Nick. Tuesday September 25 at 8/7c on FOX

Modern Family– With the introduction of a new character, or soon to be new character, the story has yet another point of conflict to contend with. They weren’t kidding when they named this show Modern Family, they planned on covering all their bases and they sure are plugging right along. The new plot points will surely be addressed in the shows humorous and yet heartwarming manner as it has for the past three seasons. Wednesday September 26th at 9/8c on ABC

Scandal- Nothing is hotter than a political scandal, except maybe a White House affair with a side of murder. We are back and President Fitz’s affair has been covered up by his wife Mellie’s willingness to once again lie to save his office (the marriage long dead). Meanwhile, Olivia Pope is back to all about business, or is she? We hear a new love interest is coming her way. The big quesion is who is Quinn Perkins and will Cyrus’ hit on Amanda Tanner be uncovered? We will be tuning in! Thursday September 27th 10/9c on ABC

Once Upon A Time– With an all-star cast and not an ugly person in sight, who wouldn’t want to sit down and escape into a land of make believe for an hour? The only downside is that it was going in a very specific direction for a while with the reimagined fairy tales, and fans were starting to wonder what would happen once they ran out of classic stories to tell. With the introduction of parallel universes that involve other types of fictional stories it will be interesting to see how the new themes are incorporated into the current story arc. Sunday September 30th at 8/7c on ABC

Dexter– So we left off with Deb returning to the church to profess her love for her brother Dexter (adopted…whew!), just as he plunges the knife in Travis’ (Colin Hanks) chest. The premiere will pick up where we left off and I can’t wait to see Dexter (Michael C. Hall) try to talk his way out of this one!  Sunday September 30th 9/8c on Showtime

The Good Wife– It’s the quesion(s) on everybody’s mind…will Alicia get back together with her husband Peter or reignite the flame with Will? Who is Kalinda’s menacing ex husband..heck, who is Kalinda really? Not to mention some fresh faces around Lockhart & Gardner including Kristin Chenoweth, Nathan Lane, and Maura Tierney! Sunday September 30th 9/8c on CBS

Revenge– Talk about cliffhanger’s- a plane crash, a possible overdose, a baby, a mother who is still alive (after having been presumed dead)!  We will return with Jack doting on ‘faux-Amanda’ and her baby (presumed his), Emily dealing with the existence of her Mom, a single Daniel (being pursued/pursuing Ashley!) and a new Grayson emerging (Conrad’s son from his first marriage). It’s anybody’s guess if Victoria will rise from the plane wreckage! We can not wait! Sunday September 30th 9/8c on ABC

Homeland– We pick up six months from where we left off and Carrie is working as a teacher. But will she remember the epiphany she had just before she underwent electro- shock therapy for her bi-polar disorder at the end of last season? Or will the missing link between Brody and Nazir be lost for good? Sunday September 30th at 10/9c Showtime

Vampire Diaries– Most people would be very quick to say that the vampires trend is about as over as zombies, however The Vampire Diaries has a lot of ground to cover still since the last season left off with Elena having to make the decision to become a vampire or die. Either way, it will bring a completely new dynamic to the current show that will surely keep lovers of the show watching for at least another season. Well, that and the gratuitous shirtless Damon scenes. Thursday October 11th 8/7c on CW

The Walking Dead– Based on the widely popular graphic novels of the same name, the show has managed to be its own entity and yet remain fairly faithful to the original material. This balance has earned it a large fan base and the next season promises to be just as exciting. Bring on Michonne, The Governor and the prison! Sunday October 14th 9/8c on AMC

Suburgatory– About a sassy, intelligent, and independent redhead who has an unconventional relationship with her unbelievably hot father, who by the way is a successful businessman and single parent. Surround these two characters with extreme stereotypes of suburban dwellers and you have a recipe for lighthearted comedy that reflects on common themes for teenagers in the modern day. Yes, please! Back on Wednesday October 17th at 9:30/8:30c on ABC

American Horror Story– Yet another show by Ryan Murphy, but such a departure from the normal sitcom setup. It’s been revealed that American Horror Story is actually going to be an anthology instead of a continuous story, and the next installment is set in a 1960’s insane asylum. After last season’s nail-biting plot twists and turns, Season 2 will surely have its viewers on the edge of their seats. Wed October 17th 10/9c

Other hit shows coming back include 30 Rock, Sons of Anarchy, The Big Bang Theory, Glee, Fringe, How I Met Your Mother, The Mentalist, Bones, Gossip Girl, Parenthood,  Parks & Recreation, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice,  Happy Endings, The Office and more!
