FASHION WEEK LA- RUNWAY RUNDOWN

Fashion week came to LA and it was a non-stop runway of events. We checked out some of the most popular designers to hit the catwalk. These were the highlights of my fashion week experience!

I kicked of the week by attending the Laili Lau Concept Fashion Show at Ace Gallery located in Musuem Row. This line really hits the mark for comfortable chic. The designer gets her inspiration from a forest of trees, specifically tree trunks and their texture. The fall/winter line featured earth tones including greys, greens, blacks, neutrals, and browns. with gold, silver, and bronze adding some shine. The line features folded and draped dresses and tops, straight skirts, and harem pants. They are meant to evoke a carefree nature and the clothes are all made with soft materials for a roomy fit. Now I know how celebrities look effortlessly gorgeous yet comfy!

Next up,  I headed downtown to the heart of Los Angeles and the center of fashion week at the Vibiana to attend the ‘Stop Staring!’ fashion show featuring the fall/winter 2012 collection of designer Alicia Estrada. The evening included a red carpet and courtyard cocktail party (catered by El Cholo restaurant) followed by the show. Having attended this show last year, I knew I could expect to find amazing vintage-inspired designs that look classic and sexy on a variety of body types. This particular line was insipired by the designer’s love for the Golden Age and Mexican Cinema known as “Epioca de Oro”.  Estrada aims to capture the glamour of classic femme fatales like Mexican actresses Maria Felix and Lupe Velez, and hopes her clothes exude the same sensuality, sophistication, and grace on the runway as these ladies did on film! I’d say she definitely succeeded with a line that highlighted blues, greys, and blacks and featured a new window pane print and two-tone color blocking. Celebrity attendees included Kristin Bauer (True Blood) Jamie Lynn Sigler (The Sopranos and new Jimmy Fallon comedy DILFs), Gretchen Rossi (The Real Housewives of Orange County), Stephanie Pratt (The Hills) and Annalynne McCord (90210) to name a few.

To top of the week, I attended the “Project Ethos LA Fashion Week Event” preseted by Rusnak & Audi. The evening benefitted the Tag the World Foundation and was held at the Avalon in Hollywood. The event included a runway show by Project Ethos, live art and installations by Lab Art, and performances by The Seems and DJ Taryn Manning. Project Ethos aims to connect fashion, music, and art to the masses through live events and onlne experiences. It brings the consumer, the buyer, and media together all under one roof for a unique atmosphere at each event.

Check out our video (from Project Ethos and Stop Staring!) and photo galleries (Laili Lau, Alicia Estrada) of these events.
