Free Guy Movie Review

One of our favorite Ryan’s is back. Much like the Chris’ it can be hard to keep tabs on whose who, but the Deadpool one has released a pretty hilarious movie you’ll want to hop over to a theater to see, Free Guy.

Ryan Reynolds (The Deadpool one) has said of Free Guy “It’s more than just a video game movie,” and you know what…he’s right. The plot goes as follows: When a bank teller discovers he’s actually a background player in an open-world video game, he decides to become the hero of his own story — one that he can rewrite himself. In a world where there’s no limits, he’s determined to save the day his way before it’s too late, and maybe find a little romance with the coder who conceived him.

What the synopsis doesn’t tell you, is that the movie is hilarious. Also Jodie Comer (Millie aka Molotov) is in it, and if you’re as obsessed with Killing Eve as we are, it’s a great nibble to see her dive into an action role. Free Guy is also refreshing because it is NOT a sequel! It’s an original film which has really been missing from the blockbuster market. The movie is funny, and smart. Overall the film reminded us of a modern day Truman Show in alot of ways. Ryan’s performance of Guy also has strong roots in his Deadpool alter-ego but with less murdery vibes. The celebrity cameos are also worthwhile, proving the power of the Disney machine as fans of multi-verse movies will be thrilled to see some of Disney’s tentpoles make a cheeky appearance. All in all, a must see at the cinema.
