Halloween is right around the corner. What is a better way to get in the mood for the spooky season than a night in, with the lights off and a scream fest courtesy of whats streaming and/or available to rent for a night of chills.
You can throw on the classic if you’d like and make a marathon out of this one, Scream will forever be one of the best horror movies for Halloween. 2022 kicked off with the latest installment to the franchise, and well, we’d be lying if we didn’t say it was a must-scream. This installment reunites us with the Ghostface killer, who has re-emerged 25 years after the events of the original film, and Sidney Prescott (Campbell) and her friends have to return to Woodsboro to help a new group of victims with ties to the OG characters.
What is scarier than the bottom of the ocean and a giant killer shark? We can wait. Thats why Requin is making our list on the number two spot for what can scare you out of your pants this season. Requin follows a couple vacationing in a remote over-water cabin get swept away in a massive storm. They’re forced to survive on the wreckage in shark-infested waters, hoping to be rescued.
A classic has returned. In this direct sequel for the 1974 film, Leatherface emerges from near 50 years of hiding when a group of teens disturb his home turf.
Travel back in time with us with You Won’t Be Alone. You just might want to leave a light on for this one. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. In 19th century Macedonia, a young girl is kidnapped and transformed into a witch by an ancient spirit. After she accidentally kills a nearby villager and takes over her victim’s shape (and life), the witch continues to kill in order to discover what it means to be human.
We’re still shaking from it’s first installment, which is why we couldn’t have this list without Orphan: First Kill. This prequel to 2009’s Orphan follows Leena (Fuhrman), a murderous sociopath who looks like a child due to a medical condition. After escaping a psychiatric facility and traveling to America, she poses as the missing child of a wealthy family, whose matriarch (Stiles) will stop at nothing to protect her family.
And finally, not available to watch at home (for now) catch Halloween Ends. In the final film of the reboot trilogy, Michael Myers and Laurie Stode (Curtis) face off one last time. Halloween Ends hit theaters on October 14. There’s nothing like a jump scare in a cold dark theater.
