JK Rowling is releasing a previously stored manuscript. The new fairy tale “The Ickabog”.
“The Ickabog” will be a slow digital release with new chapters appearing weekly. So far there are two chapters online you can read here. What we know about the story so far is that it is a children’s story with 34 chapters. The story’s message is “about the truth and the abuse of power”. This manuscript was written 10 years ago and meant as a read aloud for children ages 7-9. JK Rowling said she had intended to publish the book following the release of Deathly Hallows, but then decided to take a break and focus on her Coroman Strike series for adults instead. Future proceeds from this series are set to aid companies helping with Covid19.
JK Rowling summarized the book as:
“The Ickabog is a story about truth and the abuse of power. To forestall one obvious question: the idea came to me well over a decade ago, so it isn’t intended to be read as a response to anything that’s happening in the world right now. The themes are timeless and could apply to any era or any country.”
On the official Ickabog site, there is also currently, an illustration competition taking place. Try your hand, you never know, you might help bring the new world of Cornucopia to life.
