Music Crush Monday: Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake is back with a brand new track, “Selfish”… and so is Britney Spears. Yeah, we said that. Britney fans have catapulted her track of the same name up the Billboard chart.

Justin can’t catch a break right now, but his new single “Selfish” is pretty fantastic. The record takes us back to his “Sexy Back” era and what a powerful record Future Sex Love Sounds was and admittedly still is. We can’t help but think of Future Sex Love Sounds when we hear “Selfish” and for us unfortunately the record never really picks up steam. The cut never picks up enough bass or liveliness to become very interesting, which is quite disappointing. Justin Timberlake is capable of making incredible hits and it is just a bit underwhelming to catch the edge of his and Timbaland’s past collaborations but somehow just missing the mark. We can’t put our finger on whats missing, but we do like the track. “Selfish,” just isn’t catapulting itself into favortism with us. And no, it isn’t because of Brtiney Spears. Muted. That is the word that comes to mind when we listen on repeat, as if Justin Timberlake as an artist was holding back. Why? What are your thoughts? Let us know below.
