English singer-songwriter Sam Fender took the stage at Hollywood’s iconic Fonda theater this past Friday. The concert included a good mix of his debut album and his new sophomore album which has been doing well in both sales and on the charts. Seventeen Going Under debuted at #1 in the UK charts and won Sam Fender the Brit Award for Best Alternative/Rock Act back in February. His sophomore release is an intensely personal record, more so than his 2019 debut Hypersonic Missiles. Sam’s second album has lost none of his acute sense of observation, which is what brought his talent to our attention in the first place. Sam Fender is armed with both vocals and the writing chops, which sets him up as a long lasting musician. If you’re just learning of his music, buckle in the man is taking us for a long ride on what is poised to be an epic career.

A funny yet absolutely accurate song he penned and performed this past Friday “Howdon Aldi Death Queue,” dealt with the chaos of trying to grocery shop in the midst of the pandemic. The song felt like the wild and deeper chaotic rock sounds associated with death metal and honestly…yes. The crowd was into it on Friday as we all reminisced escaping that particular hell.

Sam Fender’s Sophomore album is not only worth a buy it’s a balm to a soul and a testament that we’re here to still enjoy it. “Alright is one of the first tracks from the Seventeen Going Under era,” Fender shared in a statement. “It was always a favourite of mine, and somehow didn’t make the record. It’s about growing up and the theme of cheating death.”

You can still catch Sam Fender on tour in New York City on August 9. Sam then returns stateside in September supporting Florence + The Machine on select dates of her U.S tour including the stop at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on September 16.

You’ll find Sam Fender’s full tour itinerary, and can grab tickets via Ticketmaster for his remaining tour dates.
