Sam Smith’s newest bop “I’m Not Here To Make Friends,” has become the object of quite a bit of controversy. His fans have jumped to the singer’s defence after the new music video sparked outrage over its ‘hyper-sexualised’ scenes – arguing that it has been ‘going on for decades’. Many critics of the singer are calling for th emusic video to be age restricted on platforms such as YouTube,¬†due to its controversial content. What do you think of this development?

Issues with the video have been taken due to scenes where, Smith’s music video shows them arriving at a castle in a helicopter before dancing alongside a large number of performers wearing corsets, suspenders and nipple tassels, while at one point a fountain of water is seen being sprayed into the singer’s mouth. Many fans have pointed out many songs that are hyper sexualized from Madonna’s song catalog, as well as Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.” What do you think has sparked a censorship conversation with Smith’s latest video but not the aforementioned releases from other artists?
