Music Crush Monday: Sam Smith

We’ve been quietly expiring since Sam Smith teased us with a snippet of his new record “Unholy” now, the music video has arrived, and we can breathe again.

Sam Smith has teamed up with Kim Petras to bring us the seductive hit that is “Unholy.” The single kicks off with big a cappella vocals by Smith which catches you off gaurd a bit when you first hear it. The song immediately progresses and you find yourself swept under a dark undertow. You can’t seem to help but we seduced by “Unholy.” It is a departure from the type of music that we’re used to receiving from Sam Smith and we love it. Meanwhile, for German pop artist Kim Petras, on the other hand, “Unholy” is definitely not far from the mark. Her 2022 album, “Slut Pop,” features tracks “XXX” and “Throat Goat,” which very much fit into this sexy dark era that Sam Smith is entering. Lyrically, “Unholy” recounts the adultery of a husband who frequents “The Body Shop,” aka the infamous L.A. strip club incase you were wondering.
