Netflix is putting women front and center, and we’re here for it! They are putting “their money where their mouth is” as the saying goes by investing in the future of female filmmakers. More below.
In a blog post by the head of global TV at Netflix, (Bela Bajaria) posted “in advance of International Women’s Day (March 8), Netflix today announced that the first $5 million of our recently announced Creative Equity Fund will go towards programs that help to nurture, develop and uplift women in the entertainment industry globally.”
The Creative Equity Fund dedicates $20 million annually over the next five years to setting underrepresented communities up for success in the TV and film industries, as well as bespoke Netflix programs that will help us to identify, train and provide job placement for up-and-coming talent globally. As part of the announcement, Netflix also launched this video (below) in support of women breaking barriers, asking who will be next, and letting women around the world know, you never know who else will rise up because of broken barriers. The video is narrated by Janet Mock.
