Now, the days of clubbing and dive bars should be far behind us right? Well if they aren’t, Riviera 31 promises to give you the posh drinking experience you didn’t even know you craved.
The intimate lounge is located in a cozy corner of The Sofitel Hotel’s ground floor. With wall to wall sliding glass doors that lead from the bar to their private open patio, the atmosphere alone is sure to be a hit. Dress to impress ladies and gents because Riviera 31 is just that; impressive. Decorated with a throwback to 60’s glam and paying homage to the screen sirens of the day, you’ll want to break out your vintage and give your cat eye an extra swoosh.
Moving on to the cocktails. Their lead mixologist; Ferrari Watts and team have created a decadent selection of new cocktails for the season. My absolute favorite is The Bardot. Clearly named after the French bombshell Brigitte Bardot who enthralled audiences this drink is sure to do the same. Slightly unassuming with a simple ice cube as it’s center piece decoration, the flavor will take you away. I am a huge wimp when it comes to spicy anything, but the Bardot delivers a slightly spicy kick that will leave you feeling refreshed and wanting a cozy fire to snuggle up to.
The Grace and CoCo C are the runners up in the flavor department for me. The Grace ( named after Grace Kelly of course) is slightly sweet, and reminds me of a lemon sorbet you might enjoy on a calm summers day. With autumn in full swing a little reminder of summer in the city of angels is always nice. The CoCo C sweeps you away to a tropical island. Topped with a slice of luxurious white chocolate I’d almost vote in lieu of a little umbrella. The CoCo C made me want a beach and a tropical destination getaway. I think this one is best saved as a desert beverage.
Finally whiskey lovers can rejoice in The Piaf. Named after the French songbird Edith Piaf, this whiskey and fig infused drink is not for the faint of heart. I was left intrigued by it’s flavor combinations, and slightly tipsy by the powerful punch it packs. Last but not least there is the Deneuve. Tequila and grapefruit juice are it’s most powerful flavors, but it will leave you feeling refreshed and has just the right amount of refreshment to set the tone for a relaxing evening out. While you’re sitting at the bar enjoying the new drink menu, make sure you take a peek at their tapas inspired cuisine. The garlic mac and cheese is a must when deciding on which small bites you must have.
