Thats right, art lovers and fans of Barack and Michelle Obama, their beautiful artistic portraits are coming to LACMA. This fall, LACMA is presenting two eagerly anticipated exhibitions that promise to dazzle audiences with their historical significance and awe-inspiring beauty: The Obama Portraits Tour and Black American Portraits, opening on November 7. The upcoming exhibit will be featuring the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery’s official portraits of President Barack Obama by Kehinde Wiley and former First Lady Michelle Obama by Amy Sherald, The Obama Portraits Tourenhances conversations surrounding the power of portraiture and its potential to engage communities.
Black American Portraits features 200 years of Black American subjects, sitters, and spaces, centering Black love, abundance, family, community, and exuberance. This selection of approximately 150 works draws primarily from LACMA’s permanent collection and chronicles the ways in which Black Americans have used portraiture to envision themselves in their own eyes.
