ONE-ON-ONE WITH MARIE AVGEROPOULOS

2015 is shaping up to be a busy year for Marie Avgeropoulos. Between her amazing performance as Octavia Blake in the sci-fi series The 100 and a wide array of film roles coming up Avgeropoulos’ star is on the rise.

tracers_movie_poster_1This will become apparent to anyone that watches Tracers, her newest film which debuts this week. As Nikki she is a no nonsense street kid that can take on even the toughest of situations. Most of the movie revolves around the world of underground parkour and watching her make some truly insane jumps is a highlight of the film.

Press Pass LA sat down with Avgeropoulos to discuss her love of action movies and the future of her career.

PPLA: What first attracted you to this role?

MA: I’m a huge action buff and do a lot of my stunt work. When I heard this would involve parkour I looked into and it sounded exciting!

PPLA: This is an intense film, what kind of training did you have to do?

Marie Avg Tracers 2MA: We trained for a few months, it was really intense but there are gyms dedicated to just parkour. The biggest thing for me wasn’t getting in my own head. If you’re not careful during a jump it can really hurt.

Honestly it reminded me a lot of when I was leaning to skateboard growing up.  I was a big skateboarder as a kid, my mom got me a board so before I could drive it was my main form of transportation.

PPLAYou’ve done a lot of action roles in your career, is there something about the genre that attracts you more than others?

MA: I’ve always been an athlete so I’ve been active my whole life.  I was raised out in Ontario, Canada so we’re a tougher breed to begin with out there [laughs]. I love the rush of it.

PPLA: What’s your dream role?

MA: I want to knock everything off my bucket list. I want to tell stories that are true and inspiring and pull on the heartstrings.  It doesn’t matter if it is an indie or a blockbuster, if it does that then I’m in 100%.

PPLA: You’ve got a new movie coming out called Numb, tell me a bit about that.

MA:  It’s an independent feature and the cast is wonderful and small which is a great change of pace from the huge cast at The 100.  It’s about a blue collar couple that is a bad situation that must pair up with a group of mysterious hitchhikers to recover a large pile of money. It is really well done I can’t wait for it to come out.

The-100-season-2-episode-11-Octavia-is-a-GrounderPPLA: Season two of The 100 just wrapped last week, are you excited for season three?

MA: I’m really excited to continue Octavia’s journey on the show next year. The storytelling on the show is fantastic, I have no idea how they juggle so many characters at once but it is all done so well. It is a show I am really proud to be a part of. I wish I could say more but we only get the scripts like the day before we shoot.
