Cinco Uno is an edgy fashion line designed for petite women by actress and content creator Maiah Ocando.
Cinco Uno translates from Spanish to English as Five One. It’s a play on the creator’s height, and we’re here for it. Mariah Ocando is now the Founder and Creative Director of CINCOUNO, which launched in Miami in December of 2018. The brand is LA based but accepts world wide orders from its website.
The designs are dark, and scream high fashion. Maiah created the line with women who are 5’4 and under in mind. What catapulted Maiah into creating the line was her need for forward thinking fashion for her fellow petite women.
Did you know that according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, in the United States, the average woman is a little under 5ft 4 inches tall at 63.7 inches (161.8 centimeters). The fashion industry standard of 5’9″-plus fit and fashion models only accounts for approximately 3% of the extrapolated population. Although more than 50% of American women are shorter than the average fit model, grading for non-standard sizing is uncharted territory for a lot of brands. This is the reason why Maiah, (an award-winning fashion designer and petite woman herself), decided to develop a clothing brand she would wear and embrace.
“We’ve been told all our lives we’ve got to settle for fashion that doesn’t fit because ‘at least we’ve got something to wear’, but truth is there’s an underserved market of women below 5’4’ with different body shapes who also want to look fabulous and fashion-forward despite their height,” Ocando explains. “Modeled after my own sense of style and prompted by my experience as a petite woman myself, CINCOUNO reimagines fashion for women 5’4’’ and below to satisfy a multi-hyphenate independent female who wants to look and feel “woman enough”: not cute and harmless, but sexy, powerful, resourceful, and freethinker.”
