Cinelounge Sunset, Hollywood’s acclaimed home for arthouse, genre, and independent cinema, is proud to open the first seven nights-a-week outdoor movie theater in the heart of Hollywood. Nestled behind the iconic Egyptian theater, the new 200-seat Cinelounge Outdoors theater is the only DCI compliant outdoor cinema in all of Los Angeles for first run features.
COVID-19 has deeply affected the movie industry, especially for independent theaters. In order to keep his business running, owner Christian Meoli has expanded his indie, arthouse theater into new arenas by creating innovative offerings and diversifying his business, such as this latest outdoor experience, screening films virtually, and offering his distinctive gourmet popcorn that the theater now markets and sells nationally. With the Delta variant still surging in Los Angeles, outdoor venues like The Hollywood Bowl, Dodger’s Stadium and Cinelounge Outdoors provide the safest communal experience for people to feel comfortable enjoying entertainment.
Beyond new film screenings, Cinelounge Outdoors is becoming the premium special events venue to welcome audiences back to the cinema experience under the stars. A one-stop shop for special events, premieres, brand activations and conferences, Cinelounge Outdoors just hosted Netflix’s recent premiere for Season 2 of Never Have I Ever. With the Indian themes in the show, Cinelounge customized their in-house curry blended popcorn for the event, and worked hand-in-hand with IW Group to curate the food from Bollywood Kitchen and drinks by Lost Property.
“We’ve stepped up and pivoted again to serve the needs of the Industry and the community at just the right time. Our aim is to bring the same bespoke charisma Cinelounge is known for, to the outdoor experience”, said Meoli. “We’re excited to be exhibiting and curating again and look forward to continuing to offer audiences new, classic and culturally relevant content.”
And films aren’t the only content being exhibited. Meoli has paired up with promoters of the popular Comedy Supernova for comedy nights at the venue. First up is The Good, The Bad & The Funny. Aurelio Miguel Bocanegra has teamed up with stand-up comics Beny Mena and Phil Medina, and together all three plan on making Cinelounge Outdoors the biggest “Wild West Latin Comedy Show in Hollywood.” Ticket Link Here.
Other weekend activities, taking place now through month of August, include drinks, food, live music, and plenty of games such as corn hole, ring toss, Jenga and more. Cinelounge has also partnered with the Lost Property team, led by Rhino Williams, for the bar. Meoli is also working with Phillip Dane from The Odd Market fame, who is curating various food trucks for on-site service during special events and weekends.
Marking its Grand Opening, the Cinelounge Outdoors will screen a number of the latest films to welcome audiences back to the theatre experience. New movies such as Summer of Soul, Pig, and Zola have screened during the theater’s soft opening, with upcoming runs of Universal’s Old and A24’s The Green Knight hitting the screen this weekend.
The Cinelounge Outdoors is now open at: 1625 N. Las Palmas Ave. Hollywood Ca 90028. Convenient parking is just across the street. Contact venue for showtimes. For more info, click HERE.
