PALEY FEST: THE TOMORROW PEOPLE

This past weekend our Press Pass LA team had the pleasure of attending the 2013 Paley Fest Previews: Fall TV in Beverly Hills, CA. The festival is the Paley Center’s annual weeklong celebration of the fall television season, and features interactive Q & A sessions with the cast and creative teams of the hottest new shows! We attended the screening and Q & A of the CW’s highly anticipated sci-fi drama The Tomorrow People.

The show will premiere on October 6th, and tells the story of several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution, possessing special powers, including the ability to teleport and communicate with each other telepathically. Together they work to defeat the forces of evil.

The star of the show Robbie Amell was joined onstage by his co-star Mark Pellegrino and producers Greg Berlanti, Julie Plec and Phil Klemmer. When asked about how he would describe his character Stephen, Robbie told the audience to think of him as the classic character “Donnie Darko”, which made the audience even more excited to see what the future holds for the show. Mark Pellegrino plays the antagonist Jedekiah in The Tomorrow People. But the actor doesn’t think Jedekiah is evil. “I love his passion, his commitment to his cause,” Pellegrino explained. “Don’t say Jedekiah’s a bad guy! I love Jedekiah.”

This show is an exciting new take on the supernatural side of television, and trust me it’s not some X-Men rip-off. The show tries to keep a stronger foot in reality. “We’re not in such a hurry to turn this into an all-out comic-books freak-out,” Klemmer told the PaleyFest audience.

With all of the diverse characters, plot twists and backstories (flashbacks included), the show is sure to be a hit with audiences of all ages when it hits TV screens this fall! Be sure to check out The Tomorrow People October 6th at 9pm only on The CW.
