In support of his latest album Evolution, top producer/DJ Paul Van Dyk hit Playhouse Hollywood for a special engagement this past Sunday night. PPLA saw him perform a few months ago at White Wonderland music festival, and that was just a glimpse into what was to come. Last night’s performance was not a let down. In fact, it was spectacular.

The crowd was energetic and definetly vibing off his set. Paul Van Dyk’s mixes/songs where melodic and got the fans jumping. You could tell from the smile on his face and everyone in the crowd, that we were all enjoying the music.

This is his first album of new material since 2007’s In Between. As the title Evolution suggests, the record is a progression, not an about-face. Mixing swooshing beats with catchy vocal hooks from guest singers, makes for an enjoyable time and leaves the listener  wanting more.

The 15 tracks on Evolution take you on quite a journey, and prove that PvD has lost none of his creative juice since his debut in 1994. It’s easy to see why he is among only a handful of DJ’s to be ranked the world’s #1 DJ by DJ Magazine in their “Top 100 DJ’s” poll two times. This latest album is a collection of collaborations between PvD and various artists such as Adam Young from Owl City, Dj Austin Leeds, Sue McLaren, and Sarah Howells. Besides playing at clubs and venues worldwide, PvD also recently worked on the soundtrack for the film, The Dark Knight.

Evolution is a fantastic example of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) at its best. The album’s slogan, “No E – Pure PvD” serves as a nice way of reminding his fans that PvD is not into the rave-fave drug ecstasy, a point originally made by the absence of the letter “E” in his namesake.

As a fan of his music and his message, I truly enjoyed seeing his set at Playhouse and look forward to his next tour to Hollywood
