The people have spoken. Results for the People’s Choice Awards are in and last night’s big winners included a noticeably absentee Katy Perry, Johnny Depp, Emma Stone, and Harry Potter. But who won on the red carpet? Press Pass LA talks awards show fashion.
Let me start by saying, I am not some high-brow fashion reviewer. I can’t tell you what the hot trends are for awards season or which designer you should wear…but I do have a pair of eyes and it’s not tough to tell who was hot and who was not at last night’s awards show where the fans’ opinions are really all that matters!
I think many would agree with me that ‘Best Dressed’ for the night could have easily gone to Julianne Hough for a daring backless number that really set the bar high. Other red carpet rockstars included Demi Lovato in a peach Marchesa gown and gold clutch (with a change later to a fiery red number to match her fierce stage performance). Another lady in red who won my approval was Kristen Bell in a short Valentino dress that appeared to combine lace and leather but totally worked!
That said, leather and lace made a second appearance in an equally kick-ass black cocktail dress worn effortlessly by vampy vampire, Ashley Greene. Another tween favorite, Vanessa Hudgens went for sultry Jenny Packham dress that again pushed the limits of a girls simple black dress, in a good way! Lea Michele- who took home the People’s Choice Award for ‘Favorite TV Comedy Actress’ beating out tough competitors Courteney Cox, Kaley Cuoco, Tina Fey and co-star Jane Lynch- went for a white flapper-esque Marchesa gown which made me so happy I could of started swing dancing. Also in white, was a surprisingly classic choice accented with a sheer dip in the neckline, making for an elegant Miley Cyrus. Emma Stone who nabbed ‘Favorite Movie Actress’ for The Help and ‘Favorite Comedy Actress’ for Crazy, Stupid Love went with a feminine twist on a men’s tuxedo look. The emerald color really accented the return of her red-headed tresses. Host, Kaley Cuoco chose several nude dresses which all looked lovely, albeit a bit the same. Nina Dobrev took home ‘Favorite TV Actress’ and sported a bright green dress with sheer long-sleeves that also made her one of my fashion favs. Lastly, Cheryl Burke picked a gorgeous gown with a high slit to show off her dancers legs and mom-to-be Allison Hannigan had the best dressed baby bump.
On the other foot, were shoes that included: Current ‘it’ girl Jennifer Lawrence who went for a blue dress with a geometric wave pattern atop what looked like fishnet stockings? While, I loved the color and fit, I’m still riding the wave of indecision on the overall look. And then there was pink! Kathy Griffin, a comedic legend, made me laugh in a tight hot pink gown which did show off her killer bod but I’d be a ‘pretty little liar’ if I didn’t say it would have been more fitting for a gal from that cast. Faith Hill went for more of a magenta in a one-piece jumper with gold belt accent. Of course, the girl doesn’t look bad in anything but I’m on the fence if she pulled this one off. As I was saying, pink just wasn’t having a ‘Good’ day, Goodwin…Jennifer Goodwin that is, was another offender who turned a classic silhouette into a hippy throw-back with her bell bottom sleeves. My final offender was fashion critic Kelly Osborne who wore a two-toned dress in pale pink and salmon that had a straight line down the front that made me think she was going to unzip it and uncover the real knock-out beneath.
Other gals worth mentioning include Betty White looking fabulous at any age in her black suit with…again…sheer sleeves. I know I said I don’t know trends, but sheer accents seemed to be it! Also, Cougar Town’s Busy Phillips stole my attention in a form-fitting bold blue with three-quarter sleeves that really put a edgy twist on a classic Hollywood frame.
