Grinchmas is in the ait at Universal Studios Hollywood. Check out our hot tips for habing the best holiday when you plan your day at Universal.
Congratulations, you’ve bought tickets to Universal to experience their holiday magic. Our first tip for making the best of your visit is making sure you get Express passes. You really can’t go wrong with the level of ease that is provided with Universal’s Express pass. The Express pass is worth every penny, the amount of time you will have cut down to be able to enjoy everything Universal has to offer makes it perfect for navigating the park and getting to experience the most rides and attractions in the shortest amount of time, allowing you to enjoy many attractions rather than a few. Besides, who likes to wait in line?
We kicked off our day by popping into the Simpson’s land first. The Simpson ride is a classic and always reminds us of being kids when Homer and crew were a nightly staple after homework. Afterwards we hit the lower lot to experience Universal’s tour. The tour of the back lot is always a must. We cannot recommend it enough. Not only do you get to see the sets of shows currently in-progress the 45-1hr long experience is peppered with movie history, set pieces, special effects, and even 3D experiences that make you feel you’ve been dropped right into a movie set.
After the Studio Tour you will probably feel hungry and now is the perfect time to head back upstairs to enjoy Hogwarts! We entered into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter with smiles on our faces as snow is currently falling in Hogsmeade. The Three Broomsticks has the best food in the entire park, and yes we will absolutely die on that hill. You can catch their holiday offerings right now like we did. The Three Broomsticks have a holiday feast currently available, which we said yes to for dinner, alongside their sticky toffee pudding for dessert and we washed it all down with fresh hot Butterbeer.
After dining we stored our belongings inside Hogwarts Castle and hopped on the ride making perfect time to pop out and experience the holiday lights at Hogwarts castle just as the sun set.
Knowing we wanted to see our friends in Whoville we made our way to Universal Plaza where a play that celebrates the changing of the Grinch’s heart takes place right before the Whovian’s light the Christmas Tree. It’s called “Who-bilation” which has returned with an all-new daytime performance featuring the Who-Bee Doo-Wops group, Who-ville’s latest musical sensation rocking out to hip-swinging, bell-ringing holiday classics for the Whos and guests to enjoy. And when we say the show ends in the evenings with the tree lighting we mean none other than, a festive topsy-turvy 65 foot-tall “Grinchmas” tree, adorned with hundreds of ornaments and thousands of LED lights inside Universal Plaza.
“Grinchmas” activities will include photo opportunities with the Grinch TM and his faithful
dog Max, a chance to spend time with Cindy-Lou Who as she leads daily story time for young
guests looking to learn “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and visit to the Who-ville post office to
mail a merry postcard sharing three good deeds.
A themed craft area inside Universal Plaza provides guests the opportunity for jolly holiday decorating by creating paper ornaments to adorn the Grinchmas tree or to take home as a holiday souvenir.
Plus, a selection of themed Who-tacular sweet treats, including the Grinch Donut which is the size of our head! And there is a variety of hot cocoa available for purchase.
Hot-Tip Meet and Greets with The Grinch for your holiday photo op are in the Lower Lot. We do wish they would move this back to the Center Plaza, but alas.
