Project Angel Food hosted it’s annual Angel Awards earlier this month to honor the philanthropic work of Hollywood veterans’ actress Jane Lynch and chef Giada De Laurentiis. The Angel Awards was packed as almost 400 guests came to honor Project Angel Food’s notable efforts to prepare and deliver more than 12,000 meals per week for people suffering from serious illnesses in the Los Angeles area.

Some of the celebrity guests that came to support included actress Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), actor Nolan Funk (MTV’s AwkwardThe Canyons), and Project Angel Food founder Marianne Williamson. The awards this year took on a special Tuscan theme in honor of Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis who was born in Italy.

Kicking-off with a cocktail and silent auction, the Angel Awards gave each guest a unique gift—gold bracelets that at $5 provide one meal for a patient. Los Angeles Councilmember Mitch O-Farrell welcomed guests to dinner where the Tuscan theme continued, featuring Italian favorites prepared by produce grown in Project Angel’s very own gardens.

After dinner, Howard introduced special gust De Laurentiis to the stage to award her Project Angel’s inaugural Iconic Chef Award. Current CEO Laurie Lang explained the significance of food as part of their mission to provide tasty yet healthy meals to patients facing HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other similar ailments.

Following De Laurentiis it was Glee star Jane Lynch’s turn to be honored, this time by original founder Williamson who bestowed Lynch with a Founder Award. Lynch testified how Project Angel Food has provided not only meals but love to those going through extremely difficult hardships.

Los Angeles Councilmember Tom LaBonge concluded the night’s festivities by further honoring each special guest with proclamations from the city council, thanking Project Angel Food for it’s dedication to Los Angeles. We can’t wait until the Angel Awards 2014 where Project Angel Food will be celebrating it’s 25th anniversary!
