Reefer Madness: The Musical opens in Hollywood with Kristen Bell Producing

Reefer Madness: The Musical opens in Los Angeles with original cast Kristen Bell producing the show.

Originally, Reefer Madness was the title of a 1930’s American propaganda film that told the story of how an entire high school student body was introduced to smoking marijuana (aka reefers.) The film was intentioned as a cautionary tale about the consequences of allowing youth to smoke marijuana; however, it soon became cultural satire and a series of Reefer Madness inspired posters, novels, songs, and movie were released.

The original film came out in 1936 and most recently Kristen Bell starred in 2005 Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical. Bell joins this latest iteration- a live stage show- as producer. Reefer Madness: The Musical is running at The Whitley Theater in Hollywood with tickets available for show dates currently listed through July.

On opening night, we caught up with original cast Kristen Bell and Neve Campbell, as well as celebrity supporters Lake Bell, Jess Tyler Ferguson, Angelina Jolie and more, alongside the cast of the musical on the red carpet.

About the Show: After the curtain falls, the adventure continues right there on our immersive set. Come stay at Mae’s place, 420 Elm Street aka The Reefer Den. It’s a 1930’s speakeasy vibe featuring a hot house band with a Postmodern Jukebox vibe, with very special guests from Broadway to LA making surprise and scheduled appearances — you never know who might show up! The space will also expand, opening out into The Victory Garden, a lush outdoor area connected to The Reefer Den.
