Stars of the new film Romeo & Juliet, Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth shined on the red carpet of their U.S. film premiere this Tuesday, September 24th at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. Not only did co-stars from the movie attend such as Ed Westwick and Kodi Smit-McPhee, but singer Taylor Swift also walked the carpet in support of her friend, actress Hailee Steinfeld.
Kodi Smit-McPhee reports he is excited to bring this legendary play to a new generation. Ed Westwick says, “This adaptation has more action and freshens it up for the contemporary audience.” He tells us the most challenging part of the movie was learning sword fighting since he had never done it before.
Douglas Booth tells Press Pass LA taking on such a big role “was terrifying at first,” but after that was excited by it. He was cast in June 2011, beating out 300 other actors who were interested in the part. As far as learning the text, he did admit it was the most daunting at first but when you embrace it, it just becomes a really exciting part of it.
Hailee Steinfeld saw Shakespeare as a big challenge she was able to overcome and was just as nervous for playing Juliet as taking on any other role. Romeo & Juliet is a 2013 British film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy directed by Carlo Carlei. You can catch the most dangerous love story ever told in theaters October 11th, 2013.
