The Queen of Wakanda Angela Bassett recieved the Montecito Award at The Santa Barbara International Film Festival for her many achievements and contributions to entertainment.
We had the absolute privilege of catching up with her and also chatting with Director Ryan Coogler, who presented the award to her this evening. Angela Bassett is also now the first actor to be nominated for an Academy Award for their work on a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Angela Bassett walked on stage and spoke about her decision to move to LA as she left behind her theater career in New York. In Los Angeles Bassett was able to grow her career into film and episodic television. During her acceptance speech she discusses her “Malcom X” performance and how she would sometimes act from the script and other times follow her own interpretations. Angela Bassett also, revealed how powerful she felt while filming “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” as she got to pick her on screen partner. As a myriad of choice clips form her career as an actress played Angela commented on each sharing special moments that stood out to her as she gave life to each character. Finally she breaks down her powerful speeches from “Wakanda Forever,” as she drew upon her family for inspiration in her performance.
