Succession fans are having their moment as the series nabs 9 nominations for The Golden Globes. An impressive feat for a series whose storylines and awards have ramped up with every subsequent season.
HBO’s golden child has come to an end, but this juggernaut series is ending with a bang as it heads into The Golden Globes with 9 nominations. After leading the 2023 Primetime Awards with 27 nominations, the family corporate drama Monday received nine Golden Globe nominations, leading the field and setting a new record for a TV program. Succession was nominated in every category it was eligible for, including Best Drama Series. Its dominance was most prominent in the male categories, with three nominations each in Best Actor (for Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin) and Actor in a Supporting Role on TV (for Matthew Macfadyen, Alexander Skarsgård and Alan Ruck).
With its Golden Globe haul for its final season, Succession eclipsed L.A. Law‘s eight nominations in 1990. On the longform side, The Thorn Birds also nabbed eight nominations in 1984. Other TV titles on Golden Globes’ most nominated list include drama ER (seven in 1998) and limited series Angels In America (seven in 2004).
