The Academy Announces 97th Annual Oscars Nominations

The Academy has announced nominations for the 97th annual Oscar awards, filled with blockbuster hits, talented actors, outstanding production talent and more.

Highlights include The Academy’s most nominated picture, Emilia Pérez with 13 nominations, and the two second most nominated pictures, the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, and The Brutalist, both with 10 nominations. 

In fact, all three directors, Jacques Audiard, Jon M. Chu, and Brady Corbet, are experiencing their first time being nominated in the ‘Best Picture’ category. Emilia Pérez director, Jacques Audiard, goes to ‘X’ to share his gratitude and says, “Honored and humbled by the Academy’s recognition of Emilia Pérez. This film was a labor of love for all involved. Thank you to the incredible cast and crew, and to the audiences who embraced our story.”

All three of these pictures were nominated for the Best Picture Award along with, Anora, A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two, Conclave, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, and The Substance.

The ‘Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role’ includes Adrien Brody for, The Brutalist Timothée Chalamet for, A Complete Unknown, Colman Domingo for, Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes for, Conclave, and Sebastian Stan for, The Apprentice.

The Brutalist’s, Adrien Brody, has not been nominated since he received an Oscar for ‘Best Actor’ in 2003, for his role in The Pianist. Brody came to Instagram to say, “Thank you to all my peers and colleagues at the Academy for this extraordinary honor. For almost four decades, I’ve experienced the peaks and valleys of being an artist. It’s given me perspective and a tremendous appreciation and respect for this moment.”

The ‘Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role’ includes Cynthia Erivo for, Wicked, Karla Sofía Gascón for, Emilia Pérez, Mikey Madison for, Anora, Demi Moore for, The Substance, and Fernanda Torres for, I’m Still Here. 

Wicked’s, Cynthia Erivo, responds to the nominations and says on her Instagram, “Moments like this don’t come along very often, and when they do, it is sacrilege to let them pass by without a moment of gratitude. I am grateful, grateful to [The Academy], grateful to be a part of something that makes people feel seen… and deeply deeply grateful for this unbelievable recognition.”

In fact, Erivo’s co-star, Ariana Grande, was nominated for an award in the category ‘Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role,’ for her role as Glinda. This is Grande’s first Academy Award nomination and she expresses her gratitude over Instagram as well, and says, “Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to [The Academy] for this unfathomable recognition. I cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise…”

The 97th Oscar Awards will take place on March 2nd, 2025, at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, starting at 4:00PM PST.
