THE HUNGER GAMES PREMIERE

The Hunger Games is based on the novel (trilogy) by Suzanne Collins and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, and Stanley Tucci, among other stars. The film, which is brought to us by writer-director Gary Ross (Oceans’s Twelve, Seabiscuit), is set in the not too distant future in which a ruined North America is now called Panem (consisting of the capitol and its 12 districts).

The districts are kept under control by a yearly competition known as The Hunger Games. Each year, one boy and one girl, between the ages of 12 and 18, are chosen to participate and fight to the death in a large arena on live TV. Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is a 16 year old girl who volunteers to take part in The Hunger Games instead of her younger sister, Prim. Katniss volunteers to save her sister, knowing her stregnth and survival skills are second nature to her. Still, she and her male counterpart Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) must make some difficult choices along the way to survive and ultimately win so that their families can have a better life.

The Hunger Games is set for a nationwide release next Friday, March 23rd.
