This fall, The Muppets will be receiving the revamped treatment in the most unexpected way—a mockumentary television series.
During a panel for the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour, ABC announced that they plan to revive the beloved project. On the TCA panel, The Muppets writers/executive producers Bill Prady and Bob Kushell were joined by Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy to discuss the upcoming series.
Unfortunately, Kermit and Miss Piggy also announced the end of their romantic relationship. However, they plan to keep things professional on the set of The Muppets.
The forthcoming project will revolve around the backstage antics that surround Miss Piggy’s late night series Up Late with Miss Piggy. Fans of The Muppets will have the opportunity to see into the personal lives of their favorite characters, including Fozzie Bear.
In addition, the series will feature a lineup of various celebrity and musical guests, including Reese Witherspoon and Imagine Dragons. Since the show plans to take on a reality mockumentary vibe similar to Parks and Recreation and The Office, it will not be a straight-up variety show like the original series in the 1970s.
Although a premiere date hasn’t been announced at this time, are you excited to see ABC’s revival of The Muppets? We are looking forward to seeing what the anticipated series has in store!
