TIFF UPDATE: Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans’ Wins Audience Award

The Fablemans is Director Steven Spielberg’s childhood memoir and the film has jumped on an award season high, following the recent festivals toward possible Oscar and Golden Globe nominations amongst other award season nods.

Director Steven Spielberg’s latest film went home with TIFF’s top audience award, which is often a barometer of future Academy Award nominations. “This is the most personal film I’ve ever made, and the warm reception from everyone in Toronto made my first visit to TIFF so intimate and personal for me and my entire Fabelmanfamily,” the director said in a statement following the announcement of his win.

The Fablemans is co-written with Tony Kushner. The film marks the first time the Oscar winner has debuted a film at TIFF. The Fablemans will be released Nov. 11 into theaters via Universal Studios. The Fablemans is described as a portrait of the formative years of Steven Spielberg, before he became a celebrated director.
