Trailer Tuesday: ‘Moon Knight’

Marvel/Disney+ have released the first look trailer for the upcoming series Moon Knight.

The Moon Knight trailer reveals a darker venture into the Marvel universe than we’ve previously been on. It’s a departure from the comedic blasts, and action packed series we’ve enjoyed so far. Not to say there won’t be action. From the looks of the trailer there will be action aplenty, but the cornerstone of this series seems to be a crossing of psychological thriller and mystery genres. The titular character is played by the brilliant Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector/Moon Knight.

In the Mravel comics, Moon Knight was created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin, the character first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32 in August of 1975). In the comics, he is the son of a rabbi. Marc Spector is a former Marine and CIA operative who becomes a mercenary, despite his conflicted feelings about violence and morality. During a job in the Sudan, he is appalled by ruthless fellow mercenary Raoul Bushman. Bushman then attacks and kills archeologist Dr. Alraune. Spector saves the archeologist’s daughter and colleague, Marlene Alraune, then fights and is defeated by Bushman. The dying Spector is brought into a recently unearthed tomb for shelter and placed before a statue of the Egyptian moon God, Khonshu. Spector seems to die but then suddenly revives, fully healed. He claims Khonshu wants him to be the “moon’s knight”, redeeming his life of violence by now protecting and avenging the innocent.

From the looks of the trailer it seems we’re on a bit of a backwards who dunnit journey. The trailer shows a disoriented Soector who is desperate to piece together his waking and dreaming hours. This makes us feel ths story will pick up after he’s fought Bushman and is living in a post unearthed tomb of Khonshu sotryline. We could be wrong…but maybe not? Let us know your thoughts on the trailer.
