Penelope Cruz is the steady muse of Director Pedro Almodovar, this duo is back with another stunning character story piece, as seen in the trailer for Parallel Mothers.
Penelope Cruz has given us stunng performances working alongside Director Pedro Almodovar. Some of their greatest stories together include Volver, and Broken Embraces, just to site a couple. This latest feature, Parallel Mothers, follows two single women who meet in a hospital room where they are both going to give birth. One is middle aged and doesn’t regret it, while the other is adolescent and scared. The two women form a strong bond with one another as they both confront motherhood. As the audience the trailer shows us the film will be putting us through the paces, watching these women confront their lives through parallel yet differing experiences. We wonder what new heartache Almodovar has planned for us? Let us know what you think of the trailer, and if this might be another Oscar contender for the upcoming awards season. We smell a foreign film nomination in the works, in our humble opinion.
The director’s latest will kick off the Biennale on September 1. Of opening the Venice film festival Director Almodovar said this, “I was born as a film director in 1983 in Venice,” said Almodóvar in a statement, “in the Mezzogiorno Mezzanotte section. Thirty-eight years later I am called to open the festival. I cannot explain the joy and the honor, and how much this means to me without falling into complacency. I am very grateful to the festival for this recognition and hope to be up to it.”
