Tribeca Film Festival Reveals a Deeper Look into A Woman’s Work.

A WOMAN’S WORK: The NFL’s Cheerleader Problem, is making waves at 2019’s Tribeca Film Festival, in New York City.

A WOMAN’S WORK: The NFL’s Cheerleader Problem is part of this year’s documentary film competition at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival.

The documentary shines a spotlight on the NFL and its practices around wage theft and illegal employment of cheerleaders. Director Yu Gu follows several former cheerleaders, exploring both their legal and personal struggles as they fight for minimum wage and ending 50 years of inequality inflicted by the NFL.  Their fight for wage and gender equality epitomizes many of the challenges faced by working women in all sectors of the workforce today.

Filmmaker Yu Gu is a filmmaker born in Chongqing, China and raised in Vancouver, Canada. She works in both narrative and documentary film, exploring identity, migration, and the individual’s relationship to society. Her filmmaking practice is supported by the Sundance Institute, ITVS, Tribeca Film Institute, Firelight Media, and Film Independent.

We are thrilled to see the documentary in its entirety. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this featurette.
