The Unlikely Heroes foundation has been making waves in Los Angeles this year by uniting Hollywood in a common cause. Last night, the charity brought together some of the city’s hottest up and coming stars for Los Angeles Fashion Week’s grand finale event featuring design prodigy Jazmin Whitley.
The foundation has found a niche among Hollywood’s younger generation, attracting stars like Marisa Lauren of 90210, and Playboy radio host Jessica Hall. Everyone from Jayde Nicole of The Hills to musician Shane Stevens walked the red carpet to show their support.
Transforming the spacious Station lounge inside the W Hotel in Hollywood, the event showcased Whitley’s Li Cara autumn/winter 2012 collection. “It is really inspired by European royalty and glamour. I really wanted to bring a bit of Europe to Los Angeles,” Whitley told Press Pass LA before the show.
“This is my first fashion installation so I’m excited. Usually my models walk up and down the runway and it’s over quickly. This time they will be standing in front of everyone the whole night so I hope everyone can appreciate the designs on a new level,” she explained passionately.
Whitley launched the Li Cara clothing label in 2006 and has been making fashion history as the youngest fashion designer in the industry today. One look at her collection and the reason for her success is clear. Each piece is as much a homage to the fashion of yesterday as it is a look toward the future. Smooth and simple, yet extremely elegant each piece seems to have a story to tell.
Beyond the glitz and glam the night the celebrities really came out to show their support for a good cause. At the end of the month, Unlikely Heroes will take a team of therapists to the Philippines to work with the girls rescued last November and make sure they are put into a restoration home. The team will provide one-on-one therapy sessions and train the girls to help them overcome the damage they endured trapped in sexual slavery. The trip will cost over $12,000 for transportation, hotel, meals, translators, therapy tools and educational materials for the team to complete their mission. With the help of some of today’s hottest stars, Unlikely Heroes can now make that happen and help those in real need.
