Press Pass LA attended the Vanity Fair and L’Oréal Paris D.J. Night hosted by Freida Pinto, with music by Taryn Manning. The evening raised awareness and benefited Girl Rising and was held at 1OAK on the Friday before the Academy Awards.
Girl Rising is a documentary that follows the stories of nine girls from developing countries who overcame great obstacles to obtain an education and change their fates. The stories are narrated by A-list talent like Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Selena Gomez, Liam Neeson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, and Freida Pinto.
The 2013 Girl Rising film was the inspiration for organization of the same name. Girl Rising aims to educate women who are lacking education and break the cycle of poverty. Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) was chosen as a host of the event because of her work with the charity and she is currently working on an Indian version of the documentary.
The event was a celebration of the work the organization is doing and took center stage as a part of a week long series of events presented by Vanity Fair during Oscar week. Taryn Manning (Orange is the New Black) had attendees dancing the night away. Check out our video to see what they had to say about the event!
