Viola Davis Stops Filming ‘G20’ After Film Receives SAG-AFTRA Waiver to Start Production

Viola Davis has walked away from the ongoing shoot of the film G20 after it was greenlit by SAGAFTRA under an interim agreement, she states her reason as, ” I stand in solidarity with actors.”

“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike,” Davis said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA.”

Her decision comes one day after the performers union noted that the project could begin filming (despite the involvement of Amazon Studios) because it hails from the non-AMPTP-affiliated studio MRC and is only being distributed by Amazon. A fine line in the details that Viola Davis is clearly unwilling to cross. The Oscar award winning actress is pulling no punches and determined to use no loopholes to ensure she is supportive of the overall union’s hard work to ensure fair contracts for all.
